Overview

In 2011, southern Manitoba had one of the most severe and extensive floods on record. This required an emergency response, including in areas where flooding was never experienced before. In total, 26 First Nations in Manitoba were affected by 2011 flooding and there were evacuations from 18 First Nations communities.

Together with First Nations and the Province of Manitoba, the Government of Canada worked toward a recovery that saw evacuated residents returned to safe, secure homes or permanent long-term accommodations.
