Roles and responsibilities in First Nations housing
Providing and managing housing on-reserve is the responsibility of First Nations. The Government of Canada provides funding to First Nations for safe and affordable on-reserve housing.
First Nation communities that receive annual funding from INAC for on-reserve housing can use these funds for a variety of housing needs, such as:
- lot servicing
- debt servicing
- planning and managing their housing portfolio
- mould remediation
In addition to INAC, other Government of Canada departments have programs available to support housing on-reserve. Visit Housing for Indigenous peoples to find these programs.
