2019-20 Gender-based analysis plus (GBA+)

Governance Building on the established governance structure within Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) to advance GBA+ that relies on support from Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC), in 2019–20, ISC's GBA+ implementation plan will be re-developed in conjunction with CIRNAC to institute a more fulsome, culturally competent GBA+ framework and toolkit that better reflects the Indigenous context. The implementation plan will be developed in a way that enhances training and serves the needs of ISC and CIRNAC separately, while recognizing shared goals.
Human Resources A departmental champion will support the development and application of GBA+. The departmental champion will be supported by an informal joint Feminist Government and GBA+ network comprised of representatives from both ISC and CIRNAC. There is 0.8 full time equivalent (FTE) dedicated to support both departments.
Planned Initiatives In 2019–20, ISC will collaborate with CIRNAC, Indigenous Women's Organizations and other partners to develop a culturally competent GBA+ framework, toolkit and training supports, drawing on existing resources developed by Indigenous organizations. The efforts this year will build upon previous work undertaken by the First Nations and Inuit Health Branch and the Status of Women Canada. The Departmental champion for GBA+ will be responsible to work with existing networks to oversee GBA+ implementation in the Department's decision-making processes.
