New water treatment plant nearing completion

Home to approximately 860 people on the reserve, Sapotaweyak Cree Nation in Manitoba is building a new water treatment plant with funding from Indigenous Services Canada.

The community has one long-term drinking water advisory affecting around 250 homes and 11 buildings:

  • the advisory on the Sapotaweyak Water Treatment Plant came into effect in July 2019 and became long-term in July 2020

Construction of a new water treatment plant is underway. When complete, the new plant will lift the community's long-term drinking water advisory. Construction is expected to be complete in May 2021.
