Ministikwan Lake Cree Nation
Upgrades to water treatment system complete
Project tracker
Projected lift date: July 2022
Located in Saskatchewan, Ministikwan Lake Cree Nation is home to 946 people on the reserve.
There is 1 long-term drinking water advisory which affects 215 homes and 12 community buildings:
- a drinking water advisory was set on the Ministikwan Lake Public Water System on March 9, 2020, and became long-term on March 9, 2021, due to COVID-19 related delays to construction
Upgrades to the Ministikwan Lake Public Water System have been completed to support access to safe drinking water and a new pipeline from the Ministikwan Lake Public Water System has been installed to supply water to Mudie Lake. The Mudie Lake Public Water System was previously under a long-term drinking water advisory. However, this was deactivated on April 1, 2021, following the completion of the new pipeline. Both systems are now considered 1 system by the First Nation and the Meadow Lake Tribal Council, the latter which provides environmental public health services to the First Nation. The Ministikwan Lake Public Water System remains under a long-term drinking water advisory and both areas of the First Nation are affected by the remaining advisory.
Operational challenges have been addressed. Final testing of the upgraded system is underway and once completed, the community should be in a position to lift the advisory.
Ministikwan Lake Cree Nation receives operational support from the Circuit Rider Training Program.
