Project tracker
Projected lift date: TBD
Eabametoong First Nation in Ontario is home to 1,623 people. The community has completed work to expand and upgrade their water treatment plant, with funding from Indigenous Services Canada (ISC).
There is 1 long-term drinking water advisory affecting 270 homes and 12 community buildings:
- a boil water advisory for the Eabametoong Public Water System was set in August 2001 and became long-term in August 2002
The community expanded and upgraded their water treatment plant in 2019. The plant sustained damage from a fire in July 2023. Restoration work, including major structural repairs, is now substantially complete. Infrastructure is in place that can produce clean drinking water.
Efforts are currently underway to address minor outstanding deficiencies, with some delays being experienced.
Consistent operations and maintenance of the water treatment plant are required before the advisory can be lifted. The community receives operational support from the Centralized Water and Wastewater Hub, delivered by the Matawa Tribal Council and funded by ISC.
