Construction of water treatment plant upgrade underway

Project tracker:

Projected lift date: April 2025

Mathias Colomb Cree Nation in Manitoba is home to 2,223 people.

There is 1 long-term drinking water advisory affecting 366 homes and 14 community buildings:

Through the First Nation led design process, it was agreed that a water treatment plant upgrade and expansion would address the community's long-term water needs instead of replacing the existing lift station. This upgrade will also address concerns about potential wastewater overflows.

Construction of the upgrade and expansion, which includes a new pumping station, is underway. Extreme cold weather, the COVID-19 pandemic, supply chain issues and site conditions have all delayed the project. Once the work is complete, the community should be able to lift the advisory.
