Miawpukek First Nation
Long-term solution identified to increase water pressure, design underway
Project tracker
Projected lift date: TBD
Miawpukek First Nation in Newfoundland is home to 836 people on reserve.
There is 1 long-term drinking water advisory affecting 35 homes:
- a boil water advisory was set on the Conne River Public Water System in December 2022 and became long term in December 2023
The advisory is in place due to low water pressure in the distribution system in the Bernard Road area. Miawpukek First Nation developed an action plan to address the long-term drinking water advisory and is working with Indigenous Services Canada to implement their plan.
The plan includes significant upgrades to the water system:
- installation of booster pumps to ensure enough water can reach the entire community
- upgrades to the water treatment plant
Design is now underway. Once the project is complete, the community will have long-term, reliable access to clean drinking water and should be able to lift the long-term drinking water advisory.
