Project tracker
Projected lift date: TBD
Weenusk First Nation in Ontario is repairing their water treatment plant and working to hire a local water operator, with funding from Indigenous Services Canada.
There is 1 long-term drinking water advisory affecting 93 homes and 5 community buildings:
- a boil water advisory on the Peawanuck Public Water System was set in May 2024 and became long-term in May 2025
Infrastructure is in place that can produce clean drinking water.
The advisory was put in place due to operational challenges. The community is currently developing a plan to hire and train a local water operator and receives support from the Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation. Once consistent monitoring and operations are in place, the community should be able to lift the advisory.
