About the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act

The Access to Information Act is one way that Canadian citizens, people who live in Canada, and corporations residing in Canada can access federal government records that are not of a personal nature.

The Privacy Act is one way that Canadian citizens or other people present in Canada can access federal government records that contain their personal information.

When to submit an ATIP request

You can submit a request for:

• Access to government records under the Access to Information Act
• Access to your personal information or request corrections of your personal information under the Privacy Act

Submit an ATIP request

You can submit an Access to Information request online through the ATIP Online Request Portal or by contacting the department directly. A notice of acknowledgement will be sent to you upon receipt of your request.

Consult the Completed Access to information requests from Library and Archives Canada or visit Open Canada to access a list of previously released Access to Information Requests from departments.
