The Fisher River Cree Nation Scholarship will be awarded to a student from Fisher River Cree Nation who is registered in any undergraduate or graduate program. The scholarship was established as a thank you to the community for hosting the Master's in Development Practice: Indigenous Development (MDP) orientation. A central part of the MDP orientation is hosted in Ochekwi-Sipi, the Cree community of Fisher River. Incoming students spend time on the land and water, and are inspired by the community's approach to collective and individual well-being. Community leaders, Chief and Council, youth and knowledge-keepers share their experiences, as well as the challenges and successes of community-led sustainable development. Discussions include such topics as governance, environment, education, language and culture, health, traditional knowledge, and the impact of residential schools.
