Okanese First Nation in Saskatchewan is home to 190 people. The community celebrated the opening of their new water treatment plant in November 2025.
There is 1 long-term drinking water advisory affecting 52 homes and 3 community buildings:
- a boil water advisory on the Okanese Public Water System was set in August 2020 and became long-term in August 2021
Construction of a new water treatment plant to meet the long-term needs of the community began in spring 2024 and was completed in fall 2025. Infrastructure is in place that can produce clean drinking water.
Okanese First Nation receives operational support from the Circuit Rider Training Program, and operator training is ongoing. Consistent monitoring and operations are required before the advisory can be lifted.
