Service update applications for Indian Status
Effective February 1, 2026, the Edmonton Registration Office will move from a same-day, in-person application processing to an in-person application drop-off, intake-only service model for applications for Indian status.
Secure Certificate of Indian Status (SCIS) card services are not affected by this change.
Why the change:
- Reduces wait times and increases the number of clients that can be served
- Improves equitable access for all applicants
- Ensures applications are processed fairly, regardless of travel or location
- Enhances consistency, accuracy, and security in application processing
- Aligns service delivery with other ISC regional offices
What to expect
- In-person appointments will review applications and take certified copies of required documents
- Applications, mail in and drop off, will be processed in the order they are received
- Applicants will receive confirmation of registration by mail once processing is complete
Appointments can be booked through the online booking tool. Walk-in clients may be accepted based on availability.
We remain committed to delivering respectful, inclusive, and accessible services while improving our ability to support individuals and communities.
